Sun of Japan was born out of a genuine obsession. Jakob, a graduated optometrist and lifelong eyewear enthusiast based just north of Copenhagen, founded the concept in 2019 with a single conviction: the craftsmanship coming out of Japan is among the finest in the world — and far too few people know it.

After years of working in an industry dominated by mass-produced eyewear, Jakob set out to highlight something different — frames made with intention, patience, and an uncompromising attention to detail.

Having spent years working closely with Japan’s most dedicated craftsmen and designers, Jakob felt that the quiet precision and passion poured into every single pair deserved a wider audience. Sun of Japan exists to bridge that gap.

Japanese eyewear is to the optician what Swiss watches are to the watchmaker.

Both are rooted in centuries of craft tradition, regional pride, and an almost unreasonable commitment to detail. Just as a true watch connoisseur wouldn’t settle for a fashion brand on their wrist, a true eyewear connoisseur knows the difference between a frame made for the shelf and one made for life. Our collections are the latter.
